Flood Grant Relief – Business Support 

The QLD Government has released some business support packages to support flood affected QLD businesses. The business support packages are split between three main sup: 

  • Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants – Up to $50,000 for businesses and not for profits impacted by the floods, and up to $75,000 for primary producer businesses. 
  • Disaster Assistance (Essential Working Capital) Loan – Up to $100,000, with a loan term of ten years with two years interest only, for essential working capital.  
  • Disaster Assistance Loans – Up to a maximum of $250,000 with the same terms as above.  

Below we have provided more detail of the above support as well as details of the support packages. If you have not been directly impacted (Ie the flood did not damage you) but lost contracts or work you will not be eligible for the extraordinary disaster assistance grant but please read about the loans which you could be eligible for.   

Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants 

The flood grant of up to $50,000 ($75,000 for primary producers) is for the hire or purchase of equipment and materials, clean up, removal of debris replace or repair damaged infrastructure and stock and other costs associated with the recovery process.  

For non-primary producers:  

The Maximum flood grant amount is $50,000 and is available in through two applications:  

  • An initial amount of up to $15,000 is available to support an initial claim. Evidence of the direct damage is required such as photographs, quotations, tax invoices or official receipts. 
  • A subsequent amount of up to $35,000 is available to support subsequent claims for which full evidence of payment is required. 

For Primary producers: 

The maximum grant amount is $75,000 and is available through two applications: 

  • An initial amount of up to $15,000 is available to support an initial claim. Evidence of the direct damage is required such as photographs, quotations, tax invoices or official receipts. 
  • A subsequent amount of up to $60,000 is available to support subsequent claims for which full evidence of payment is required. 

Eligibility Criteria:  

To be eligible for an exceptional circumstances grant, you must: 

  • be a small business owner with an ABN at the time of the flood 
  • Be directly damaged by the flood with evidence 
  • Plan to continue business and be primarily responsible for the business.  
  • For the damages not to be covered by an insurance claim. You can still be potentially eligible if your business is not fully covered by insurance.  

Additional criteria for primary producers 

  • Be a primary producer 

There are additional criteria’s, however if you meet the above you will almost certainly be eligible.

Disaster Assistance (Essential Working Capital) Loan 

Loan features: 

Loan amount: Max of $100,000 

Loan Term: Up to ten years 

Repayments: Up to two years interest only 

Security: A loan must be secured by a mortgage of land or other assets. 

The interest rate is not provided yet but based on previous weather events it would likely be 0.45% to 0.8%.  

Fees: No fees 

The loan is to provide you with essential working capital expenses. Other than the loan amount you may be wondering what is the difference between this loan and the disaster assistance loan. This loan is for businesses that have not experience direct damages as a result of the flood, while the disaster assistance loan is for businesses that have been directly impacted. Which is why this loan amount is much lower that the disaster assistance loan.

The loan is to assist you to re-establish the normal operations of your business.
